Tara is denied electricity bill support by Social Services, who tells her to simply get a free grill instead - a task that leads Tara into uncomfortable situations. Inspired by true events, "Grill" offers a satirical look at how a rich country in Scandinavia deals with poverty. The director read an article in a Norwegian newspaper about a person who was denied electricity bill support by Social Services, and Social Services instead suggested the problems could be temporarily fixed by simply getting a free grill at the online marketplace finn.no. The director was outraged by the lack of empathy in the system's response to someone who struggled financially, which to her felt reminiscent of "Let them eat cake". And thus, the idea for the short film GRILL was born. Through the absurd task of retrieving a free grill to solve financial problems, the director wants to offer a satirical look at how the system and society in one of the world's richest countries, can make financial struggles not just a difficult, but a deeply shameful experience. The premise of the film is thus: In a society where you need money to get respect and trust, and you need respect and trust to get money, what do you do if you end up on the outside?
