Gerardo Coello Escalante is a Mexican filmmaker based in CDMX and New York. He has directed various short films, commercial projects and music videos in Mexico and the United States. Viaje de Negocios, his first short film in his home country of Mexico, premiered in competition at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival before screening at LALIFF, Rooftop Films, Palm Springs, Hollyshorts, Sarajevo and Tirana Film Festival among other international festivals. In 2017 he was awarded a Sundance Ignite Fellowship for his short film La Visita. In 2019, his feature script Forgive us Sinners was part of the Sundance Screenwriters Intensive Lab. He previously worked as a 1st Assistant Director on feature films such as Shiva Baby, Dating and New York, and Reality. In Mexico, he was an Assistant Director on Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Bardo, and served as the 2nd Unit Director for Luis Mandoki on his film Presencias. He co-founded the production company Thumper FIlms with Amandine Thomas to develop and produce their films.
